Another day, another major poll listing the Michigan State men’s basketball team as the preseason favorites.
The first USA TODAY sport’s men’s basketball coaches poll of the season was unveiled today and the Spartans came in on top. This is after MSU was named as AP preseason No. 1 for the first time in school history on Monday.
The Spartans received 30 of a possible 32 first-place votes, similar to the ratio they got for the AP poll, getting 60 of 65 votes there.
Michigan State’s first opponent of the season, the Kentucky Wildcats, also received the same ranking from the coaches as they did the AP. They’ll open the season at No. 2, making the Champions Classic tipoff game a legitimate No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup when the two square off on November 5.
Michigan State also starts the season as the top-ranked KenPom team.
