Michigan State hoops still on top in latest CBS poll

Another day, another ranking of college basketball teams that won’t play meaningful games for six months.

Still, it’s nice to be on top.

Michigan State remains at number one according to CBS’s Gary Parrish in the most recent version of his Top 25 And One. The reason for the updated rankings? First, some slight changes in players declaring for and withdrawing from the draft and recruits committing to schools, and second, the departure of John Beilein, which dropped Michigan completely out of the rankings.

Parrish goes so far to say that had Beilein, Jordan Poole, Charles Matthews and Iggy Brazdeikis all returned to Michigan, they probably would have been preseason #1. But it wasn’t meant to be and the Wolverines are out of the rankings completely. Too bad.

After MSU the top five is rounded out by Duke, Kentucky, Louisville and Kansas. Other Big Ten teams in the rankings include Maryland at #7, Iowa at #16, Purdue at #18 and Ohio State at #24.
