Another Big Ten team has paused football workouts indefinitely due to positive COVID-19 tests.
According to Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune, Michigan State’s week one opponent Northwestern has paused workouts due to a player testing positive for COVID-19.
Greenstein says that the earliest workouts will resume is Wednesday, August 5. This is presumably so the rest of the team can get tested to see the scope of the problem.
Northwestern is the sixth Big Ten team–joining Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan State, Rutgers and Maryland–to pause workouts this summer. Michigan State is currently in a two-week program-wide quarantine after the latest round of testing produced 16 positive results.
Friday is the first day schools are allowed to begin padded practices.
Michigan State and Northwestern are currently slated to kick off the season on September 5, although the Big Ten is expected to release an updated schedule in the coming days.
