It was senior day in East Lansing when Michigan State (2-6, 0-5 B1G) welcomed in the Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-3, 3-2 B1G) to Spartan Stadium. Behind an outstanding defensive effort, Michigan State was able to end Nebraska’s three game winning streak, while simultaneously ending their own six game losing streak, beating the Cornhuskers 20-17.
The Spartans offense had a decent day, something MSU fans haven’t been able to say for a while. In total, the Spartans gained 295 yards.
Both quarterbacks saw action in the game, with Houser getting majority of the work, finishing 13/20 for 165 yards and a touchdown. Sam Leavitt went 1/2 for 25 yards, also adding a touchdown. Both looked like plus players when in the game.
On defense, Jaden Mangham and Khalil Majeed both secured interceptions, while Cal Haladay recovered a fumble. The team also had 7 sacks, with true freshman, Detroit native Jalen Thompson leading the way with 2, while forcing the fumble Haladay recovered.
The win marks the first for Harlon Barnett since taking over as the interim head coach of the program.
Michigan State will look to carry this momentum on the road to Columbus next week when the Spartans match up with Ohio State.
