Michigan State Justin Layne posted on social media on Friday morning as he was walking to the UPMC complex for a pre-draft visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Layne is a former wide receiver who has taken his gifts on offense and utilizes them well on defense. He’s got elite NFL size and adequate on-field speed.
Because of his lack of experience, Layne isn’t quite NFL ready. But he takes to coaching well and has a high football IQ. If the Steelers could land him early on the third day, he’d be an exceptional developmental prospect. The Steelers have a guy in Brian Allen already on the roster who they are hoping will grow into his measurables but Layne represents a physical freak who is much further along in terms of his football skills.
