Michigan State blows big halftime lead, falls to Purdue, 55-54

Michigan State blew a 15-point halftime lead to lose to Purdue, 55-54, on Friday night at the Breslin Center.

The Spartans led for nearly the entire game until Purdue junior forward Trevion Williams hit a jumper with four seconds left in the game to lift the Boilermakers past Michigan State. Junior forward Aaron Henry had a chance to win the game but his buzzer beater shot bounced off the rim, completing the incredible comeback for Purdue.

With the loss, Michigan State falls to 8-4 on the season and 2-4 in the Big Ten.

Michigan State held a 15-point lead entering halftime, 31-16. The Spartans were in control for most of the first half, and utilized a 9-0 run across the final 3:58 of the half to build up a comfortable lead at the break.

Purdue came out firing in the second half and slowly chipped away at the Spartans lead. Williams was the key factor in the Boilermakers comeback, scoring 24 of his 26 points in the second half.

Michigan State was led offensively by Henry and senior guard Joshua Langford, who scored 13 and 10 points. Junior forward Joey Hauser had 9 points as well.

The Spartans finished the game shooting 39% from the floor, and made only 3-of-13 three-point attempts. Both Michigan State and Purdue finished the game with 14 turnovers.

Michigan State will be off for nearly an entire week, with their next match-up on Thursday at Iowa. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 9 p.m. ET and can be seen on FS1.
