Michigan State Basketball: Steven Izzo, Mady Sissoko test positive for COVID-19

Michigan State Basketball has done a tremendous job of keeping their players safe amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, but they now have their first two COVID-19 cases of the 2020-21 season. On Wednesday, the team announced that freshman Mady Sissoko and sophomore Steven Izzo have tested positive for COVID-19 and will not be traveling with the team to Iowa.

Tom Izzo had COVID back in November, and now his son will deal with the illness. While Steven has only played eight total minutes this season, the loss of Sissoko will be massive for the Spartans. The 6’8″, 235-pound freshman has become one of Izzo’s few players with size who can come in and protect the rim and bang with bigger forwards in the Big Ten. The loss comes right as the Spartans head into a match-up against Big Ten phenom forward Luka Garza.

Both players tested positive four days ago according to Izzo and will be held out of practice for 17 days. The Iowa game is currently still scheduled to occur.
