Michigan State basketball’s Rocket Watts ready to step up after Joshua Langford injury

Joshua Langford’s injury devastated every fan of Michigan State basketball, but the season continues and this team will need to have a ‘next man up’ mentality if they want to achieve their goals. Enter Rocket Watts. The freshman will be called upon to start in the place of his injured captain, and he seems ready.

“I feel like I need to come in and watch more film, get more shots up, talk to Josh about the little things he did and all the seniors and upperclassemen,” Watts said after practice Tuesday. “My role is gonna be big. And I’m ready for it.”

“I got sad,” Watts said of Langford’s injury. “That’s like a big brother to me. We’re just all by his side praying for him.”

It is important to note that the starting guard spot is not guaranteed to go to Rocket. If Kyle Ahrens can get healthy by opening night he could claim that spot. Or, Izzo told the media that he is considering starting Gabe Brown at the 3 and moving Aaron Henry to the 2.
