No matter what, it’s always cool to see a walk-on player earn a scholarship. Some fans might get frustrated by that at times, hoping that scholarship could be used on a talented recruit or transfer, you have to be happy for someone like Davis Smith, a former walk-on with Michigan State basketball who is now officially on scholarship with the Spartans.
Tom Izzo delivered the news in his preseason press conference on Wednesday. He also made sure to note that Smith didn’t get handed the scholarship because his dad is Spartan legend Steve Smith:
Walk-on Davis Smith has been put on scholarship.
