Michigan State Basketball falls to Rutgers 67-37 in sloppy game following COVID pause

Michigan State Basketball had not played a game since January 8’s loss to Purdue, and that is pretty much what it looked like against Rutgers on Thursday. The Spartans fell to Rutgers 67-37 on the road. This was the first win for Rutgers over MSU in program history.

There is not much positive to talk about from this game for MSU. Bingham showed some life early, but aside from that, the Spartans looked lost on the court and completely out of rhythm. They set a season record with 18 turnovers in one of the sloppiest games I’ve ever seen under Tom Izzo. You can chalk some of that up to the COVID-19 pause, but this has been an issue throughout the season.

This isn’t necessarily the death knell for Michigan State’s season, but they are going to need to turn things around immediately if they want any hope of making the NCAA Tournament.
