Michigan State came into West Lafayette on Tuesday night, needing a win against Purdue to bolster its NCAA Tournament resume, but ultimately fell to the Boilermakers 75-65.
It started off with a very ugly first ten minutes to open tonight’s game, as neither team hit the 20 point mark until the 3:55 mark in the half. Both teams figured it out in the final four minutes of the half, closing the half with 21 combined points in the final 3:55, with Purdue heading into the break leading 30-27.
Freshman Mady Sissoko came alive in the first half, showing the potential he has in East Lansing, scoring 5 points and getting 4 rebounds in 6 minutes of first-half action.
The second half was very back and forth, with the two teams staying within five points of each other until just under the eight-minute mark when Purdue went on a 6-to-nothing run to take a 7-point lead, one that would be too much for the Spartans to overcome.
Michigan State got it to within one possession on multiple occasions down the stretch, but could not pull ahead, ultimately dropping the game.
The Spartans were led by Aaron Henry, scoring 15 points on 6-for-12 shooting. Julius Marble also played a very good game adding 10-points of his own.
Michigan State is back in action on Saturday, again in the Hoosier state to take on Indiana at 12 p.m. E.S.T.
