Michigan State baseball recruit Chris Mokma drafted by Miami Marlins

It’s not just MSU football recruits getting in on the MLB Draft.

MSU baseball signee Chris Mokma was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 12th round of the MLB Draft.

Chris was a star pitcher for Holland Christian in high school. The 12th round is an interesting landing spot because there is no predetermined signing bonus beyond the 10th round in the MLB Draft. The Marlins will have to put together an offer enticing enough to lure Mokma away from East Lansing and into their minor league system. If he elects to go to MSU he will then have to play there for at least three years before he is eligible to be drafted again.

Having his older brother already in the green and white may help MSU keep Mokma around, but either way, he’s got two very good options to choose from.

Congratulations to Chris and best of luck on whatever decision is made.
