It looks like Michigan State football won’t be completely under-the-radar to start this football season.
The Spartans are the sixth-highest Big Ten team in the poll with Ohio State (#5), Michigan (#7), Penn State (#14), Wisconsin (#17) and Iowa (#19) all checking in ahead of MSU. Northwestern (#25) is also ranked making seven Big Ten teams ranked in the preseason version of the Amway Coaches Poll. Plus, Nebraska is the first team in the “others receiving votes” and Minnesota is there as well. It looks like football coaches across the country expect big things from the Big Ten.
Outside of the Big Ten, Clemson is the preseason number-one team followed by Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma. LSU, Florida, Notre Dame and Texas round out the top ten in that order.
The Big Ten leads the way with seven teams in the top 25, followed by the SEC with six, although the SEC has four of the top ten teams.
Michigan State finished last season 7-6 and unranked in the final Amway Coaches Poll of the season.
