Michigan’s Karan Higdon fails to take ownership of “guarantee” when asked about it at Combine

One of the last times we saw Michigan running back Karan Higdon, he was responding to whether he would guarantee a win against Ohio State.

“Yeah I do, I do. That’ how I feel. I believe in firmly in my brothers and this team and this coaching staff, and as a captain, I’ll take that stand. Why not?”

You know the story. After a public flogging at the hands of Ohio State 62-39, it didn’t age well and we haven’t heard too much about those comments since then.

Until now.

Higdon, while speaking at his media session at the NFL Combine, was asked about that guarantee by Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors and whether it was taken out of context. He didn’t exactly own it (which seems to be an issue with Michigan players and coaches), and seemed to blame the reporter.

In case you are wondering, Jim Harbaugh did the same blame game on the reporter just after the quote, so you can guess where this mindset came from.

Look, maybe it wasn’t the best question, but Higdon still answered it. Nobody made him go there. It’s not hard to say “no comment,” or answer it a different way with more respect for your opponent. Instead Higdon provided some bulletin board material and it sure doesn’t sound like he learned his lesson.
