A man was killed in a vehicle crash Wednesday in northwest Indiana.

About 7:25 a.m., he was driving west in a 2010 Freightliner truck on Interstate 94 just past the S.R. 249 exit in Portage, according to preliminary information from Indiana State Police.

For an unknown reason, the man drove off the roadway, struck a guardrail and hit a tree before coming to a stop in a ditch, state police said. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The 30-year-old was trapped inside of the truck, and he was pronounced dead on the scene by the Porter County coroner’s office, state police said.

He died as a result of blunt force trauma sustained in the crash, state police and the coroner’s office said. He lived in Lansing, Michigan.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, state police said.
