Michigan just saw its second-deadliest month for COVID-19

DETROIT — Monday marked the end of November — one of the deadliest months to date for COVID-19 cases in Michigan.

November saw the second-highest number of COVID-19 deaths since March, when the pandemic began to break out in the state, at 1,961 deaths.

April still stands as the deadliest month in Michigan with almost 4,000 people dying due to the novel coronavirus.

Deaths dropped in the summer, ranging from 233 to 1,431 people dying. However, as we approached the fall and the second surge, the deaths began to trend upward.

According to a Dec. 1 update from the state using data as of Nov. 28, Michigan has the third highest number of deaths in the country. The state notes, "Disparities in deaths exist among minority groups even after adjusting for age and sex."

The fatality rate in Michigan on Wednesday was 2.5%.

The state has reported 437 probable COVID-19 deaths and 29,689 probable cases.

The probable cases combined with the confirmed cases make for a cumulative total of 9,842 deaths and 402,886 cases.
