Michigan football's Nate Johnson faces domestic violence charge

Suspended Michigan football player Nate Johnson is facing a domestic violence charge in Ann Arbor's 15th District Court, records show.

Johnson was arraigned Sunday after an incident that took place in the early morning hours Saturday. Michigan has suspended Johnson indefinitely from "all team activities."

"A little after 2 a.m. (on Sept. 30) one of our housing security officers found a female student outside South Quad residence hall and she reported she had been assaulted," Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security spokesperson Diane Brown said Monday. "We located the male nearby and placed him under arrest for domestic violence and took him to jail."

Johnson is being charged with one count of domestic violence and is scheduled to appear in front of Judge Elizabeth Pollard Hines on Oct. 11 in Ann Arbor. Johnson was released from jail on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond, which means he was released without bail under the condition that he'll appear in court. Michigan's athletic department announced Johnson's suspension at 2:07 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

A 5-foot-11, 185-pounder from Thompson's Station, Tenn, Johnson came to Michigan as a receiver in 2016 before switching to cornerback before the start of this season.

He has not played a defensive snap for the Wolverines this season.

Michigan (4-0, 1-0) was on a bye last week. The Wolverines play Michigan State on Saturday in Ann Arbor.
