Michelle Visage lifts lid on biopsy health scare hours before Strictly debut

Michelle Visage has revealed she was given the all-clear from a debilitating disease just hours before her Strictly debut.

The Ru Paul’s Drag Race star told how she was forced into a last minute dash to the UK after waiting in the USA to get results from a biopsy.

Michelle, 50, has lived with Hashimoto’s Disease for 20 years and had feared the worst after needing a biopsy on her thyroid.

But she was given a clean bill of health by doctors in her home country earlier this year.

She told The Metro: “[The doctor] said, “I want you to get it before you go. I said “Can’t I just get it in January?”.

“So I went and got it, and obviously when you get a biopsy you think about it 24 hours a day, and I woke up this morning and it came in benign so I was like “no I can do this”.

"Now I’m up and dancing, I came off the plane last night and here I am today. No rest for the wicked.”

Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the thyroid.

Michelle is one of 15 new celebrities set to debut on the dance floor this evening when the show's pre-recorded launch airs on BBC One.

She also revealed how she had turned down the US version of the show – Dancing With The Stars.

She said: “"This is the first time I've been asked to do Strictly. I've been asked to do Dancing With The Stars but I kept saying no, hoping for Strictly to come through.

"It's more true to what ballroom really is, and I've been obsessed with ballroom for years - just watching it, never taking it, never trying it.

"I've watched it, I've had friends that did Dancing With The Stars so I got into it, and it's just more of what I think it is."
