Michelle Pfeiffer reveals reason she hasn’t worked with Emmy-winning husband in 30 years

While plenty of Hollywood couples seem to love nothing more than working together, Michelle Pfeiffer and her Emmy-winning husband have kept their personal and professional lives largely separate for 30 years.

The 67-year-old actor married David E Kelley - a writer and producer whose shows include the huge hits Big Little Lies and Ally McBeal - in 1993, and the last time they worked together was on the 1996 film To Gillian on Her Birthday.

That’s changed now though, with Pfeiffer stepping in front of the camera in her husband’s latest Apple TV series, Margo’s Got Money Troubles.

The series, based on Rufi Thorpe’s best-selling novel, follows a young woman named Margo (played by Elle Fanning), who turns to OnlyFans to solve her financial issues after finding herself unexpectedly pregnant. Pfeiffer plays her mother, Shyanne, a former Hooters waitress.

In a new interview with The New York Times, the Catwoman star addresses why it’s taken so long for her and Kelley to work together again.

“When I come home from work and I’ve had a bad day, I want him to be on my side,” she admits. “I want him to believe my version.”

Addressing their decision to work together again, Kelley previously said: “I really just couldn’t see anyone else but her playing Shyanne.”

Margo’s Got Money Troubles also features Nicola Kidman as a mediator who tries to help Margo and her ex-boyfriend, with Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman as Shyanne’s ex-husband, the pro wrestler Jinx Millet.

After making her breakthrough in Grease 2 in 1982 - playing the new leader of Rydell High’s Pink Ladies crew - Pfeiffer went on to become one of the most popular Hollywood stars of the 1980s and 1990s, landing an Academy Award nomination and winning a Bafta for her star turn in the 1990 hit Dangerous Liaisons.

Two more Oscar nominations followed for The Fabulous Baker Boys and Love Field - with the former also leading to a Golden Globe win - and she also famously played Catwoman in 1992’s Batman Returns, before later appearing in films including What Lies Beneath, Stardust and Hairspray.

In more recent years, Pfeiffer has enjoyed success on the small screen too, landing an Emmy nod for The Wizard Of Lies. The 2017 television movie saw the actor reunite with her Stardust co-star Robert DeNiro, with the duo playing convicted financial conman Bernie Madoff and his wife Ruth.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles debuts on Apple TV next month and Pfeiffer is also about to appear in the Yellowstone spin-off The Madison, which has already been renewed for a second season.
