Michelle Obama tickets sell out: London fans demand a stadium for Southbank Centre book tour visit

Those trying to see Michelle Obama’s book tour talk at the Southbank Centre next month had their hopes dashed when tickets sold out within minutes.

Fans took to Twitter to share their dismay, posting screenshots of their positions in the website’s queue, which go up to as high as 60,000th place. Tickets went on sale at 10am and position in the queue was randomly assigned to each user.

Many demanded that Obama needs a stadium to cater for the sheer volume of interested people, while others put the call out to some influential figures.

Some even arrived at the Southbank Centre at 4:30am to get tickets in person.

There have also been calls for the Southbank Centre to livestream the conversation between Obama and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie to meet the demand for tickets.

It has also been noticed that tickets are being resold for more than £5,000 on touting sites .

The Southbank Centre responded to this, saying that they've asked Viagogo to remove the tickets and that proof of ID will be necessary to collect from the box office and enter the auditorium.

The evening with Michelle Obama will see her discuss her new memoir with bestselling author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie on December 3.

300 free tickets will be donated to secondary school pupils in London and across the country, as well as to some charities.
