Michelle Obama has released a workout playlist to provide inspiration for those undertaking fitness-focused new year’s resolutions.

On Sunday, the former first lady of the United States shared a tweet detailing the 27 tracks that help give her “that extra boost” during her “toughest workouts”.

The best-selling author also revealed the nine tracks that she plays when she is cooling down following strenuous exercise.

“It’s about that time when new year’s resolutions get a bit harder to stick to,” Obama stated. “To offer a little inspiration, I want to share my go-to #WorkoutPlaylist with you.”

The 56-year-old’s music choices feature a range of tracks by artists including Lizzo, Childish Gambino, Cardi B and Beyoncé.

Obama chose an apt day to share her workout playlist, as it also marked Quitter’s Day.

According to sports network platform Strava, Sunday 19 January was estimated to be the day on which people who made fitness-related new year’s resolutions for 2020 were most likely to give them up.

The platform, which boasts more than 48 million members worldwide, calculated the date by assessing global athlete data from the past 12 months.

Throughout her tenure as US first lady, Obama regularly championed leading a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

In February 2010, she launched the Let’s Move! campaign in the US, a public health campaign aimed at combating childhood obesity.

Last October, Obama received praise for sharing a photograph on Instagram of herself mid-workout.

In the picture’s caption, she said that while exercise “doesn’t always feel good in the moment”, she always feel “glad” after she has gone to the gym.
