Michelle Obama joins Snapchat and previews James Corden Carpool Karaoke appearance

Michelle Obama is lifting the veil on the day to day delights of being the First Lady by joining Snapchat.

Proving the line between politicians and celebrities is becoming ever more blurred, Ms Obama also announced she would be appearing on James Corden’s enduringly popular Carpool Karaoke in a short Snapchat video today.

The social media-savvy First Lady will also use her account to promote her forthcoming trip to Liberia, Spain and Morocco next week where she will be encouraging education for the estimated 62 million adolescent girls around the world who do not go to school.

Kelsey Donohue, who works in the Obama's communication office, declared the news of her Snapchat debut in a Medium blog post. She explained the account would be used to document Ms Obama’s daily routine and would even include updates of the White House Kitchen Garden.

For her first ever post, the First Lady posted a selfie (surprise, surprise).

Of course, this is not Ms Obama’s first foray into the realm of social media. The First Lady has already carved out an active online presence and has 4.58m followers on Twitter and 5m on Instagram.

In recent months, increasing numbers of politicians have joined Snapchat. Just last month in April, Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn joined the site which now has 100 million daily users.
