Michelle O'Neill reveals details of NI Executive coronavirus meeting

The Deputy First Minister has revealed the details of an urgent meeting of the Northern Ireland Executive to discuss new Covid-19 measures.

The ministers met as the Prime Minister announced a national lockdown in England which will see schools closed and exams cancelled.

Stormont ministers met just after 6pm to discuss what restrictions could be put in place in NI, which is already in the second week of a six week lockdown.

School reopenings have been delayed by a week, but Michelle O'Neill revealed after the meeting that remote learning is to be extended.

The Deputy First Minister said that the Health and Education Ministers will bring proposals to another meeting of the Executive tomorrow, which will include recommendations on what will happen with exams.

It is understood that ministers have also agreed to bring back stay at home guidance for those who are clinically vulnerable and further restrictions on travel.

Ms O'Neill said: "In addition to the restrictions already in place....Remote learning will be extended. Stay at home will be put in to regulation. Travel will be revisited. Education & Health Minister to bring detail of proposals to meeting of Exec tomorrow to include recommendations on exams."
