A Perth woman has made a brief court appearance accused of stealing some of her son's compensation payout from the 2016 Dreamworld Thunder River Rapids ride disaster.

Michelle Lisa Hanson appeared in the Fremantle Magistrates Court but was not required to enter a plea to one count of stealing.

Her lawyer today indicated Ms Hanson would be pleading not guilty.

Four people died when their raft on the Thunder River Rapids ride collided with an empty raft and flipped on October 25, 2016.

The boy was on holidays with his family when they attended the theme park.

It is understood the 16-year-old sustained an injury at the ride but he was not in one of the rafts.

Police said in 2016, Ms Hanson's son lodged a personal injury claim stemming from the disaster, with the 45-year-old acting on his behalf.

This year the son contacted police about the payout.

The financial crimes squad investigated and subsequently laid a single charge of stealing.

Ms Hanson is due back in court on July 20.
