Michelle Heaton says her addiction forced husband to be 'single parent'

Michelle Heaton has admitted that her spiralling alcohol addiction left her husband Hugh Hanley to be a 'single parent' and prompting concern from her children.

The Liberty X star was reunited with her other half and kids AJ and Faith last week after a month long spell in rehab after going into The Priory at the end of April.

Reports at the time suggested the Gateshead born star was struggling with the repercussions of lockdown and a number of health issues and at the weekend Michelle posted a picture of them all together as she left The Priory, along with a caption including the line " @hughhanley Faith & AJ you are my world. I’ve been given a second chance at life and I know I’m lucky to have that."

And speaking to The Sun, the 41-year-old has been candid about how her addiction to alcohol, which saw her drink two bottles of wine and a bottle of vodka 'virtually every day since 2018,' put a strain on her family.

She told the paper: "I felt like a bad mother - the worst. I'm so lucky I've got two beautiful children.

"They just want to see mummy well and they want to have 'fun mummy'. They just want me to play football with them, they want me to do their hair.

"I never put them at risk in a physical way, but they saw me being sick and were worried about mummy and wondering why she shouted

"And my husband wondered if I'd be alive when he woke up."

Michelle also confessed that her increasingly erratic behaviour led to Hugh thinking she was seeing someone behind her back.

And while she wasn't she admitted she was "in love with alcohol."

After Michelle entered rehab, Hugh took to Instagram to pay tribute to her, writing: "No one should ever suffer in silence but it takes real strength to speak up and do something about it … @wonderwomanshel you are doing your family proud."
