Michelle Heaton 'motivated' by Denise Welch during spell in rehab for alcohol addiction

Michelle Heaton has thanked Denise Welch for the 'motivation' she provided during her stint in rehab for her alcohol addiction.

Earlier this year it was revealed that Gateshead- born singer Michelle, 42, had checked into The Priory to with sources claiming she'd been struggling with lockdown and a number of health issues and had been using alcohol as "a crutch" to get through it.

Now sober star Michelle has been candid about her addiction issues on Instagram since leaving The Priory, talking about being given 'a second chance at life,' and documenting the tee-total activities she's enjoyed, including making mocktails with daughter Faith and reunited with Liberty X for a series of gigs, including one at Durham Pride last weekend.

The Geordie celeb, who was catapulted to TV fame on ITV's Popstars in 2001, appeared on Wednesday's Loose Women to share just how bad things got with her addiction, with her being left seriously ill after making herself sick so she could drink more.

Michelle appeared from home via video call to speak to host Kaye Adams and panellists Brenda Edwards, Janet-Street Porter and Frankie Bridge.

And while Loose Women regular and fellow Geordie, Denise, wasn't there to witness Michelle reveal heartbreaking details of her addiction, she was mentioned by Michelle for being a great source of support.

Paying tribute to Denise, who has been sober since April 2012, Michelle told the panel: "Our Denise has been there through it all, she was one of the first who actually text me when I was in The Priory and she sent me so many motivational sober quotes about recovery and that helps me."

After her appearance on Loose Women, Michelle took to Instagram to thank the ladies for their support and to urge others struggling to get help, writing: "Help lines are on the @loosewomen website and all you have to do is google help for addictions and it’s all there in it’s glory to save you like it saved me.

"Don’t suffer in silence."
