Michelle Fischbach defeats incumbent Collin Peterson in Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District

Michelle Fischbach (R) defeated incumbent Collin Peterson (D) and Slater Johnson (Legal Marijuana Now Party) in Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District. Peterson was first elected in 1990 and last won re-election by a 52% to 48% margin in 2018. He was one of two Democrats to vote against both articles of impeachment against Donald Trump. The other, Jeff Van Drew, later joined the Republican Party.

This was one of 30 U.S. House districts Democrats were defending this year that President Trump (R) carried in 2016. Trump defeated Hillary Clinton (D) 62% to 31% in MN-7; his widest margin of victory in any such district.
