Michelle Dockery, 44, 'secretly gives birth to first child' after 'horrid heartache'

Michelle Dockery is believed to have given birth to her first child four months ago.

The Downtown Abbey star, 44, announced she was pregnant in September by debuting her baby bump at the Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale premiere.

She has reportedly welcomed a son with her producer husband Jasper Waller-Bridge and the pair are “thrilled”.

“Michelle had a boy,” a source told the Daily Mail.

“She and Jasper are thrilled, and they are loving being parents.

“She gave birth around four months ago, and life is really good for her after the horrid heartache she has been through.”

The insider added: “Plus, she looks amazing for someone who had a baby only a few months ago.”

The Standard has contacted Dockery’s representative for comment.

Dockery, who played Lady Mary Crawley in Downton Abbey, no longer appeared to have a baby bump when she made a rare public appearance with Waller-Bridge earlier this week.

The actor looked slimmer as she left the press night for the play 1536 in London’s West End.

Dockery met Waller-Bridge through mutual friends in 2019 - four years after her PR director fiancé John Dineen died from a rare form of cancer in 2015.

They announced their engagement in The Times in 2022 and married a year later.

They tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony, which included Dockery’s Downton Abbey co-stars Lily James, Hugh Bonneville, and Laura Carmichael, who played her on-screen sister Lady Edith and was a bridesmaid at the wedding.

Dockery discussed her pregnancy last year, telling US chat show host Jimmy Fallon: “I'm feeling great thanks. I'm entering my peppy phase.”

The actor previously spoke out about Dineen’s death in 2015.

“I don’t have the vocabulary to describe what it felt like,” she said in 2017.

“And what it still feels like. It is… sorry, give me a minute. I’ve never been more committed to anything in my life than to him. So at the time everything just shut down. Work, everything. Work didn’t matter.

“You suddenly become an [oncological] expert. This stuff becomes your world, and that of course was my priority.”

Dockery had started dating Dineen in September 2013 after being introduced by her Downton Abbey co-star Allen Leech.

She said of their relationship in September 2014, saying: “I have a wonderful man in my life from Ireland. We were introduced by Allen Leech. That’s all you need to know.”

The star grew up in Romford, Essex. Aside from Downton Abbey, she is widely recognized for her starring roles in Godless (2017), Defending Jacob (2020), and The Gentlemen (2019).

She has been nominated for three consecutive Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award.

Dockery’s next role will be as former British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman in The Queen Of Fashion, a biographical drama about the life of fashion stylist Isabella Blow.
