Michelle and Barack Obama perform Where the Wild Things Are at White House for Easter

Michelle and Barack Obama acted out portions of a popular children’s book during an annual Easter tradition at the White House on Monday.

As the couple read Maurice Sendak’s ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ on the South Lawn of the White House, they asked the audience to join them in marching, growling and more.

The dramatic reading was part of the annual Easter Egg Roll, a tradition that started in 1878.

This year, more than 35,000 people were at the event, which also included sports, yoga and cooking demonstrations. In addition to the thousands of families, celebrities such as Beyonce and Jay-Z also attended.

During the event, the White House was temporarily locked down due to reports of an active shooter at the US Capitol building.

The man who drew his weapon was soon shot and injured by a police officer and taken into custody.
