Castle Terrace Restaurant in Edinburgh to close permanently, owners announce

A popular Edinburgh restaurant is to close after the coronavirus pandemic forced it to close its door to diners, the owners have said.

In a statement on Facebook and on the restaurants website, the owners of the Michelin star awarded restaurant said they had made the "unavoidable" decision to close permanently.

They said that with no upcoming tourist trade in the city it would not be financially viable for them to continue operating.

Castle Terrace Restaurant in Edinburgh was awarded a Michelin star in 2011, and was seen as one of the city's best places to eat even after it lost the star in 2015.

In a message on Facebook, the Chef Patron Dominic Jack said: "Sadly today, we have made the unavoidable decision to permanently close Castle Terrace. The impact of the coronavirus pandemic, along with the current guidelines, and no upcoming tourist trade in Edinburgh mean it is no longer financially viable for us to continue to operate.

"It is heart-breaking to close the doors after 10 successful years and it is not a decision we have made lightly.

"I want to personally thank all our loyal guests and visitors over the years, and for the special memories Castle Terrace has given me and my team. It’s a really sad day.

"I have so many very special memories made at Castle Terrace and was looking forward to many more. Shocked and saddened. The tragedy of what is happening now in our wonderful industry."

Amy Langstaff added: "Wow this is so sad! We came in 2017 for my partners 30th birthday and everything about the whole experience was absolutely amazing. So sorry that this has happened to you."

Another customer of the restaurant said: "I’m so sad to hear this. My husband and I still talk about one of our favorite dining experiences we’ve had on our travels, and we definitely hoped to visit again. Best wishes for the future!"
