Michelin star restaurant ripped to shreds in brutal review as diners served meals in bizarre way

A Michelin star restaurant in Italy was ripped to shreds in a brutal review by a food critic, who branded it the “worst Michelin-starred restaurant, ever”.

The €200-per-head dining experience at Bros' in Lecce, in southern Italy, was slammed by travel writer Geraldine DeRuiter as “hell” and had one thing to say to her readers: “Do not eat here”.

In a hilarious blog post published on her blog The Everywhereist on Wednesday, the American detailed the meal she recently ate at the restaurant with a group of friends.

The 27-course tasting menu was served to the group over 4.5 hours but they were still left hungry at the end as the food was dished out “a teaspoon at a time”.

She wrote: “There was nothing even close to an actual meal served. Some 'courses' were slivers of edible paper.

“Some shots were glasses of vinegar. Everything tasted like fish, even the non-fish courses. And nearly everything… was served cold.”

She continued: “We got twelve kinds of foam, something that I can only describe as 'an oyster loaf that tasted like Newark airport', and a teaspoon of savory ice cream that was olive flavored.”

However, in the most bizarre twist of the evening, the critic said diners were served a citrus foam in a plaster cast of the chef's mouth.

If that wasn’t strange enough, there was no cutlery given to them to eat the dish with, leaving the group to “desperately [slurp] sustenance out of the plaster cast of someone else’s mouth”, she added.

The shocking review was shared online and quickly went viral as people revelled in the food horror story.

In response to the scathing review, Chef Floriano Pellegrino of Bros' issued a three-page declaration via US Today , comparing their food to “contemporary art” along with three drawings of a horse.

He states: "Contemporary art does not provide you with answers, but offers you great questions. Contemporary cuisine should do the same. A chef should not offer easy answers, but challenge you with interesting questions.. . . .Here at Bros' we strive every day for the avant-garde."

Bros’ restaurant was opened in 2016 and was awarded with one Michelin star in 2018.

The Michelin guide states that it features “innovative and surprising tasting dishes – many of which are finished with a theatrical flourish at your table”.

The Irish Mirror have contacted Bros’ restaurant for comment.
