Michelin adds two Welsh restaurants to coveted Great Britain & Ireland Guide

Michelin has added two Welsh restaurants to the coveted Great Britain & Ireland Guide.

This year inspectors have started adding restaurants to their dining guides on a rolling basis each month.

It comes ahead of the annual launch ceremony, when the new Michelin Stars, Bib Gourmands and Green Stars will be unveiled.

Last year Wales had five Michelin Star sites, one Green Star and two Bib Gourmands.

There were also over 30 Michelin Plates handed out.

Added to that list in recent days are two sites in Mid-Wales.

SY23 in Aberystwyth was picked as one of five of the Michelin inspectors’ favourite new restaurants.

They said: "Chef-owner Nathan Davies is an Ynyshir alumnus, and its influence is clear to see here. Start with a drink in the bar before heading upstairs to the moody, intimately lit restaurant where the atmosphere is lively, the colour scheme makes a statement, and the open kitchen takes centre stage."

The other new site is Chapters Restaurant in Hay-on-Wye.

Inspectors said: "A stone-built former meeting room to the adjoining chapel, CHAPTERS exudes an intimate rustic-cum-vintage style with its parquet flooring, wood panelling and leaded windows.

"The set menu changes every six weeks and local sourcing is key. Hyper-seasonal, attractively presented dishes deliver original flavours."
