Micheal Martin explains why Ireland's 'wet' pubs won't open in December

Taoiseach Micheal Martin has said that Government will offer "extra supports" to pubs after they were dealt a hammer blow tonight.

Restaurants and gastropubs will be allowed open from next Friday, but bars not serving food haven't made the cut.

And, unfortunately for publicans, they will not get a chance to open again this year.

Speaking tonight, Mr Martin said: "Unfortunately, none of the research made available to Government supports the reopening of so-called wet pubs at this stage.

Level 3 restrictions in full as Ireland prepares to leave strict lockdown

"We know how deeply frustrating this will be for pub owners and we fully accept their good will about respecting guidelines but the reality is that opening indoor hospitality carries risks and there's only so far we can go.

"I want to reassure them additional supports...will be made available to owners into the new year."

Here's a full list of Level Three rules from next week:
