Micheal Donoghue not happy with Waterford challenges on Joe Canning

Micheal Donoghue was far from happy with some of the challenges on Galway’s Joe Canning - who was carried off on a stretcher with a groin injury at Nowlan Park yesterday.

Canning appeared to have suffered a knee injury in the first half but played on as 14-man Waterford staged a famous comeback to win 1-18 to 0-19 in their League semi-final.

But the 30-year-old star was carried off two minutes into injury time at the end of the second half - after he was injured in the process of taking a shot.

Limerick didn't need to hit top gear to beat Dublin and seal final spot

“I think it was his groin,” said Galway boss Donoghue. “He took a few heavy hits on it and I’d be intrigued to watch it back and see the hits he got going into it, just before it.

“He’s literally still being assessed by our medical team so until they determine what it is, we’ll be acting upon it tonight or tomorrow I’m sure.

“There’d be one in particular I’d be interested to see back. I’d like to see it - and I’d say it would be quite obvious.”

The Deise will face All-Ireland champions Limerick in the decider at Croke Park next Sunday.
