Michail Antonio reveals tactic which confused Virgil van Dijk and angered Jurgen Klopp

Michail Antonio revelled in West Ham United's successful bid to overpower Liverpool on set pieces after a hard-fought 3-2 victory at the London Stadium.

The Irons scored from two corners during an entertaining Premier League fixture, which came as no surprise to Antonio given his side's tailor-made strategy for the Reds.

Alisson diverted Pablo Fornals' delivery into his own net in the fourth minute and Kurt Zouma latched onto Jarrod Bowen's corner to extend the lead in the second half.

The Liverpool goalkeeper found himself sandwiched between the imposing frames Antonio and Angelo Ogbonna for the first goal, which stood after a VAR check.

Jurgen Klopp and Virgil van Dijk criticised Craig Pawson and his refereeing team for this decision, but Antonio simply believes he performed his duties expertly.

"The whole plan was to stick it on the goalkeeper and just challenge basically," the striker told Sky Sports .

"We saw that they’ve struggled with the ball coming in and all we have to do is keep the ball away from Virgil and it worked out for us today.

"They control it and have a look at all these teams and we find the positions we want to hit.

"So today was definitely push straight on the ‘keeper and we go and challenge. I saw that no one marks me on the ‘keeper so I’m there to block the ‘keeper to make sure he can’t come out and catch it. We saw what happened today, goals."

While Antonio was delighted with a job well done, Klopp hit out at a lack of protection for his side's goalkeeper.

The Liverpool manager said: "What can Alisson do?

"That is why the goalie is protected. If a player goes up in the air with his arm, it is an important part of the body for the goalkeeper.

"People will say I am making excuses but I am calm. You need normal decisions from a referee and he did not do that."

Reds defender Van Dijk was left puzzled by the incident, criticising the rules which left his side unsure whether the set-piece was legal or not.

The Dutch defender added: "The first goal counts. I saw the whole time, Alisson was being man marked.

"With the rules no one knows what is allowed. It could have been a foul."
