Michail Antonio returns for West Ham but it is not quite the perfect one he hoped for

West Ham ran out 2-1 winners on a cold, windy and rainy night in Burnley with striker Michail Antonio scoring both goals for the Hammers.

The game started slowly for David Moyes' team and after Issa Diop's indecision, Tomas Soucek handed Burnley the perfect chance to take the lead from the penalty spot.

Chris Wood stepped up and hammered the effort past the helpless Lukasz Fabianski and West Ham's Champions League hopes looked dead and buried.

However, just 154 seconds later the Hammers were back in the game thanks to a wonderful header from Michail Antonio. the finish was so powerful even Thierry Henry said on Sky Sports that he admired the strikers heading ability.

The 31-year-old doubled his tally for the evening tapping home an exquisite Said Benrahmna delivery shortly after.

The evening could have been more comfortable for the Hammers had Antonio taken more of the chances that came his way with one in particular from a Pablo Fornals shot that fell to him the most glaring opportunity for his hat-trick. The striker somehow managed to hit the ball against his standing leg and wide of the goal.

After the match, Antonio joked to Sky Sports that he had done this on purpose as he wanted to score with his left foot having already nabbed a header and a right-footed finish.

"I hit it on my left to get the perfect hat-trick but it didn't quite work out for me," he said.

Speaking after the match David Moyes was not so sure about Antonio's explanation: "I don't know about that!" he said.

"All I saw was he kicked it off of one leg onto the other!" he added.

Antonio was also asked about his lack of goal celebrations considering he was previously renowned for his elaborate routines.

The striker said: "I'm a person where I have had a couple of goals disallowed through VAR and I don't want to be there doing a dance and then the goal gets disallowed - it would be embarrassing.

"So I have kind of toned down the celebrations because I don't want to be doing a dance, there are a couple of times I was about to do one and then there's a handball or something like that and VAR has killed it."
