Michail Antonio opens up injury nightmare as West Ham star recovers from latest hamstring issue

West Ham United winger Michail Antonio has opened up on the "frustrating" hamstring injury that has kept him out since August.

The former Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest man hasn't featured for the Hammers since their 2-0 win over Newport County in the Carabao Cup on August 27.

Antonio underwent surgery after the match and the initial diagnosis was that he would be out until Christmas.

It's the third hamstring injury Antonio has picked up in recent time, although he has explained how all three injuries have been slightly different.

The 29-year-old also revealed how he's taking extra supplements to try and strengthen his hamstring, to ensure that he doesn't damage it for a fourth time in quick succession.

"It's been very frustrating for the fact that this is my third one," Antonio told BBC Radio 5Live Friday Football Social.

"Every time that I've done it, I've done it in a different place so it's not a recurring injury, it's a different one.

"The first time I did it, I did it at the bottom on my left, then I've done it at the top of my left, I've done the top of my right now.

"Hopefully, I can stay fit, it's not the muscle I'm injuring, it's the tendons.

"I've just got to try and strengthen that somehow.

"I'm taking more collagen shots and more turmeric and anything else that can make them stronger."

During his time out, teammate Andriy Yarmolenko has established himself as the Hammers' first-choice right-winger.

The Ukranian, who himself suffered a serious season-ending injury in his debut campaign with the club, has scored three goals in six matches for Manuel Pelligrini's side this season.
