Michail Antonio offers glimpse into wild West Ham party that had a “bit of everything”

Michail Antonio painted an exotic picture of the scenes in West Ham's dressing room after their triumph in Prague and said: “Let's build on this.”

The Hammers' lone striker was kicked from pillar to post all night against Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final, and was given scant protection by Spanish referee Carlos del Cerro Grande.

But Antonio had the last laugh, emerging with his first winner's medal since helping Southampton to lift the Johnstones Paint Trophy at Wembley 13 years ago.

Asked to describe the post-match celebrations, he said: “A bit of everything – a bit of dancing, a bit of drinking, a bit of something I cannot say!

“It has been a pleasure obviously. I have been here eight years now. To have this feeling, 58 years West Ham have waited for this moment in Europe.

"It has been amazing, a great experience, probably the best season I have had since I have been at West Ham.”

He added: “I am used to not getting fouls. At the end of the day, we have won, we get to take this trophy home and I have got my medal.”

As one of the few Hammers players who knew what it was like to lift a trophy before Jarrod Bowen's glorious, last-gasp winner in the Eden Arena, Antonio smiled: “The Johnstone Paint Trophy, yeah, yeah!

“Before the game, one of the things I said to the boys was like, people don’t get many opportunities like this. Many footballers play football and not won a single thing in their whole careers.

“There are some quality players who have done that as well. It’s a great opportunity, we had to make sure we didn’t miss out and we didn’t. We went out there, put out a good shift and we won.

“Moving forward this is not where we are going to stop – let's see if we can keep carrying it on and keep pushing ourselves and keep doing better.

“Last year we got to the semi-finals of the Europa League. This year, we won the Conference League. You can see we have a good pack of boys here, we have got good confidence and hopefully we can build on that.”
