Michail Antonio delivers Illan Meslier verdict that will annoy Leeds United supporters

Michail Antonio has insisted his goal against Leeds United should not have been disallowed whilst likening playing the Whites to "running a marathon".

The West Ham United striker netted the winner at Elland Road as United surrendered a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1.

Antonio had the ball in the net earlier in the match with Leeds ahead, which was ruled out after a challenge on Illan Meslier.

Whilst some supporters inside the ground were calling for a red card as the striker clattered Meslier, Antonio insisted it wasn't a foul.

“Basically, I’ve jumped up and the hand that I’ve led with has caught the goalkeeper," he said.

“I honestly don’t think that it’s a foul, but I’ve caught him, he’s gone down, and we’ve scored from it. The referee has made the decision and that’s the decision at the end of the day. We’ve managed to get the three points anyway and we’ll keep going.”

David Moyes was particularly glowing in his review of Leeds post-match and it was a view shared by Antonio, who likened playing Marcelo Bielsa's side to a 27-mile run.

“Nothing’s better than coming down from one down. Especially against Leeds, who are a quality team," Antonion added.

“Running a marathon. That’s a great explanation. I will never run a marathon. And that’s the closest thing for me.

"It was so hard, man. They play man v man. They work to the end and work tirelessly. Quality team.”
