Michaella McCollum breaks silence on 'uncomfortable' Piers Morgan GMB interview

Former Peru-two drug mule Michaella McCollum has broken her silence on her Good Morning Britain interview with Piers Morgan.

McCollum was one of two women caught and arrested for drug smuggling in Peru in 2013, after their luggage was found to contain €1.7 million worth of cocaine.

The 26-year-old mum of two who has since turned her life around recently appeared on GMB for an interview where she discussed her new tell-all book  'You'll Never See Daylight Again'.

But the Tyrone native was left stuck for words after she was blasted by presenter Piers Morgan who slammed her for her decision "make money" by selling a book.

Taking to Instagram, McCollum last night gave her thoughts on the TV chat posting a picture of herself from the interview and saying: "Mixed thoughts towards this interview last week."

Michaella McCollum was left awkward in the GMB interview (ITV)

During the awkward segment Morgan admitted that he didn't have much sympathy for McCollum and laid into her for "moaning" after she suggested media portrayal of her at the time of the incident wasn't fair.

The host said: "I commend you for getting your life back on track. Everyone deserves a second chance in life.

"You've got two kids and I hope you become the mum to them that you want to be.

"You're a different person and I can accept you've obviously learned a very harsh lesson.

"I find it a lot harder to feel sorry for you when you're making money from a book about it [drug smuggling].

Good Morning Britain's Piers Morgan hit out at guest Michaella McCollum (ITV)

"And I find it pretty irritating that you would then attack the media for lying about you, and then you not being able to name a single lie 'told'.

"I don't think that's a clever strategy. No one is going to feel sorry for you here."

Morgan added that he thought she should donate any money she made from her story to charity.

McCollum then tried to defend herself insisting that she wouldn't make much profit from the book and plans to use any money she makes to clear debts from her time in prison.

But Morgan hit back at McCollum and refused to believe her statement that she was trying to raise awareness saying: "Awareness about what? Awareness about how to be completely stupid?"

He also didn't appear to believe her claims of being naive when she carried the drugs at the age of 20.

Michaella and  Scottish woman Melissa Reid were both sent to prison in Lima, Peru after the pair were caught by authorities carrying cocaine.

Both were released in 2016 after serving more than two years in a South American prison.
