Michael Vaughan: BBC expect to work with ex-England captain again after standing him down from Ashes coverage

The BBC have said that Michael Vaughan remains contracted to them and they expect to work with him again after he was stood down from their Ashes coverage for his involvement in cricket’s racism crisis.

Vaughan travels to Australia this week to work with Fox Sports on the Ashes, but will not be heard on Test Match Special, as he has been regularly since retiring.

The BBC removed him from the coverage over what they perceived to be a conflict of interest as the former England captain would not be able to discuss the situation at Yorkshire.

Vaughan strongly denies Azeem Rafiq’s allegation – which is backed by Adil Rashid and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan – that he said there were "too many of you lot, we need to do something about it” about four Asian Yorkshire players before a match in 2009.

The BBC issued an update on Thursday.

"We're in regular contact with Michael and have had positive conversations with him in recent days,” read a statement.

"Our contributors are required to talk about relevant issues, so Michael's involvement in a story of such significance means it's not possible for him to be part of our Ashes coverage or wider cricket coverage at the moment.

"We're pleased with how our conversations are going and expect to work with Michael again in the future. He remains on contract to the BBC."
