Michael Strahan, Bill Belichick nominated for Sports Emmy Awards

Michael Strahan and Bill Belichick are two prominent figures in New York Giants history. Strahan as a 15-year Hall of Fame defensive end and Belichick as a two-time Super Bowl-winning defensive coordinator under Bill Parcells.

The two men were with the Giants at different times but did cross paths during Super Bowl XLII. Strahan, playing in his last game as a Giant, helped lead Big Blue to a shocking upset victory over Belichick’s unbeaten New England Patriots that year.

Now, the two men are rivals again. This time, it’s not the Lombardi Trophy at stake, but a sports Emmy Award. The two are both nominated in the caterer of “Outstanding Sports Personality – Studio Analyst.”

The fact that Strahan, who has made television his second career and has done very well as a morning host on ABC as well as a FOX Sports studio analyst, has been nominated is no surprise.

Belichick, however, rarely appears on television in any capacity, never mind as an employee. He did this year though, when the NFL Network brought him in to help break down their 100 All-Time Team to commemorate the league’s 100th anniversary.

Also up for the Emmy in that category are: Charles Barkley (TNT/Inside the NBA), Jay Bilas (ESPN/College GameDay), Al Leiter (MLB Network/MLB Tonight) and Kenny Smith (TNT/Inside the NBA).

Can’t imagine Belichick would be able to hold his own in this group, but anyone who watched the programs that he appeared on had to agree he did reflect a refreshing side to his personality and exhibited the knowledge and insight he rarely gives in other settings.
