Michael Stewart sends Green Brigade Celtic warning as pundit points to unintended Neil Lennon consequence

Michael Stewart believes the banner calling for Neil Lennon to go will only make it more likely that he stays on as Celtic manager.

The Green Brigade fans group unveiled a message urging the Irishman to leave in order to "save the 10".

The pressure is only mounting on Lennon after a 4-1 thrashing by Sparta Prague but Stewart believes the stunt could backfire.

The pundit believes being seen to act in response to fan protests could open up a can of worms, making Celtic more likely to stand by their man.

Stewart said on BBC Radio Scotland: "See the banner and the statement that was released from the Celtic supporters?

“I don’t know about you but, if the club were of a mind that they were questioning his future, I actually think that prolongs Neil Lennon’s stay.

“As a club, you can’t be seen to react off the back of a blatant statement like that, for fear of, in the future, all you need to do is to exert the pressure and you get what you want.

"I think he will get longer because of that exact statement.”
