Michael Stewart returns to screens after BBC rant controversy

BT Sport have issued a late call-up to Michael Stewart for Wednesday's live Premiership coverage.

The pundit has been drafted in hours after the BBC issued an apology to Rangers regarding his rant over Ibrox PR Jim Traynor.

He will join Chris Sutton, Gordon Strachan and Stephen Craigan for Celtic's visit to Motherwell later on Wednesday.

Stewart's comments included branding Traynor a "dangerous character" and a "bully".

The former Manchester United and Hearts midfielder also made inaccurate claims regarding the Daily Record 's coverage of an incident involving Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.

Stewart mistakenly said the Record published a story reporting Morelos' car brakes had been tampered with.

Police confirmed that the alleged incident involved Rangers player Alfredo Morelos (Daily Record)

Those claims were published by another newspaper, after we told our readers police were investigating claims by Morelos that the 23-year-old had found a man trying to access the underside of the vehicle. This was confirmed by police.

After the BBC issued the apology regarding his Traynor remarks, Stewart remained defiant as he issued a social media message both in English and Spanish.

Stewart wrote: "Impossible to thank everyone who has been in touch today, it’s been incredible the variety of people who’ve been in contact, but I appreciate every word of support and encouragement.

"I’ll keep saying it as I see it."

The second post nodded to Sky Sports' mistranslated interview with Morelos, which was pulled after Record Sport pointed out discrepancies between the subtitles and what the player had actually said.
