Baffled Michael Stewart still can't get his head around why Hearts hired Daniel Stendel.
The pundit and former Jambo has branded the German coach's appointment "extremely poor" as his future hangs in the balance.
Stendel is free to leave Tynecastle if the club, as expected, are relegated to the Championship.
A decision on the Premiership season is expected in the coming days and the manager will hold talks with Hearts owner Ann Budge over what comes next.
But Stewart, posting on Twitter, believes the appointment never made sense in the first place.
He wrote: "An extremely poor appointment which never really made sense. How did it come about? Who connected the club with him? Better to move on for both parties."
Earlier on Thursday, Stendel's agent Timo Rodewald insisted his client was in no rush to leave Edinburgh.
He told the Edinburgh Evening News : “Daniel is happy at Hearts, he likes Edinburgh and Scotland. He is feeling comfortable in Edinburgh and now has to wait and see what happens. It is not like he is running away to get out of Scotland.
“I personally think it would not be fair to punish one team and force them to relegate kind of 'in the middle of the season' – whether it was Hearts or any other team.
“If Hearts go down, Daniel's future will need to be discussed. So far we haven’t talked about it. He has not decided on anything at this moment.”
