Michael Stewart in Hearts swipe as he questions Craig Levein wages

BT Sport pundit Michael Stewart has hit out at Craig Levein for continuing to pick up a wage from Hearts despite a 50 per cent salary cut.

The ex-manager and director of football followed along with owner Ann Budge 's proposal to halve his wages, as did Austin MacPhee who he now shares the role of sporting director with.

Stewart believes it's not good enough that Levein is still receiving any money from the Tynecastle club as he called on BT colleague Chris Sutton to agree.

Speaking on the Scottish Football Extra From Home programme, Stewart said: "(Craig Levein and Austin MacPhee) deserve to be commended. But there's a bigger issue at play here.

"That bigger issue is the fact that Craig Levein has a wage at all.

"This guy was sacked from two roles many months ago and he's still there picking up a wage.

"So I commend him for taking the 50 per cent wage cut, but that's not the only story.

"Chris must accept that this guy has been the architect of many of the club's ills.

"And it's simply not good enough that's he's still around."
