Michael Stewart fires Steven Gerrard Rangers dig as pundit 'sick and tired' over Alfredo Morelos stance

Peeved Michael Stewart has let rip at Steven Gerrard over his comments in the aftermath of the horror tackle suffered by Alfredo Morelos against Dundee United.

The Rangers boss confessed he would been interested to see if his striker would have received a card from referee Kevin Clancy if the roles were reversed after Ryan Edwards escaped punishment.

Morelos was stretchered off during the 4-0 win but Gerrard is confident his star striker will be back in contention for Thursday's Europa League clash with Lincoln Red Imps.

And Stewart admits he has agonised over the flashpoint that left the Colombian international in a crumpled heap and a gaping wound in his leg.

Speaking on Sportscene, he said: "He's fortunate, very fortunate, Ryan was again involved in another moment in the game.

"I've looked at it so many times, sometimes I think there wasn't any malice, other times I think there is.

"I think what is certain is if the referee sees that properly, I think he is blinded by Butcher and maybe Roofe, I think if he sees that properly then Edwards would have been getting a red card for it. "

Morelos has been involved in a number of high profile incidents during a colourful three years in Scotland but Stewart has strongly railed against suggestions he is treated differently by officals.

Gerrard claimed it would have been "interesting is if it was the other way around" in his post-match presser but the pundit strongly disagrees with that notion.

Stewart added: "Honestly, I'm sick and tired of comments like that to be perfectly honest.

"Rangers as a club have come out on a number of occasions and said they cannot defend Alfredo Morelos anymore.

"You can't both be the victim while then also saying you can't defend him anymore.

"It's a bad tackle, Ryan Edwards is lucky to get away with it, he could have easily got a red card but enough of this that if it was Alfredo Morelos it would be different.

"We've seen a number of occasions where Alfredo Morelos has got off with things, other times he hasn't."
