Michael Sleggs' brave health battle revealed in poignant final post as he dies aged 33

Tragic actor Michael Sleggs battled cancer as a child and made a full recovery before being diagnosed with heart failure as an adult.

The This Country star died this week aged 33 just weeks after he confirmed he was dying.

His cause of death has yet to be confirmed, but it's believed to be linked to heart problems he suffered later in life.

After going public with his end of life care last month, Michael opened up about his long history of health troubles.

Previous reports had suggested the actor had been given a terminal cancer diagnosis - like his character Slugs in the BBC Three comedy.

However, he denied the rumours and insisted he'd been cancer-free since he was 14.

In a post on Facebook , he wrote: "Right let's clear some things up. I don't have any cancer, haven't had for 18 years...

"Sure, recently I was put onto palliative care cuz my heart failure was getting out of control.

"By last Friday I was certain I wouldn't be here the next week but miraculously I made some sort of great turn around over the weekend.

"Honestly, surviving was the last thing I thought was gonna happen last week...

"I dont know how long this turn around will last but I'll try and keep alive as long as I can."

The actor appeared in seven episodes of This Country (BBC Three)

News of his death was confirmed by BBC Radio Gloucestershire in a tweet today, which read: "Actor Michael Sleggs has died.

"The 33-year-old from Cirencester played Slugs in BBC comedy This Country.

"He revealed in May he was receiving palliative care for heart failure."

The This Country podcast’s Twitter account also shared the news, writing: "We are devastated! Our friend, the man the legend Michael Sleggs #Slugs passed away last night. RIP Michael. You are one in a million."
