Former Australian cricketer and commentator Michael Slater is accused of assaulting and obstructing Queensland police following an alleged domestic violence incident on Friday night.
The 53-year-old, who played 74 matches in the baggy green, has been charged with one count of assaulting police and two counts of obstructing police, following an incident at Noosa Heads on March 31.
Authorities were called just before midnight to a Noosa Heads address in relation to an alleged domestic violence-related matter and medical incident, police said.
Police will allege the former cricketer obstructed police and assaulted an officer, who suffered a small cut to his hand.
No other persons were physically injured.
“The man is expected to appear before Noosa Magistrates Court on May 2,” police told AAP in a statement.
“As the matter is domestic violence and medical in nature, for privacy reasons no further information will be provided.”
Slater played in 74 Tests for Australia, scoring 5312 runs at an average of 42.83 after making his debut during the 1993 Ashes tour of England.
The opening batsman also played 42 one-day internationals scoring just under 1000 runs before retiring from major cricket in 2004 and embarking on a commentary career with Nine and Seven networks.
