Michael Sheen has spent weeks fighting Covid and says it has been 'difficult and quite scary'

Welsh actor Michael Sheen says he has spent the last few weeks "laid low" by coronavirus.

He wrote on Twitter that he had found it "very difficult and quite scary" but wanted to thank the "incredible women" who had given him support and helped him through it.

He wrote: "On International Women's Day, I want to thank all the incredible women, Anna, Mum, Lily, Joanne, my friends and all the women I am lucky enough to have support me, who’ve helped me through this."

During the pandemic, the actor has been working with David Tennant on the BBC comedy drama Staged.

It portrays the two stars trying to rehearse a play in lockdown and Michael's part was filmed at his home in Port Talbot, where he lives with his actor partner Anna Lundberg and their young daughter Lyra. You can read Michael Sheen's beautiful love letter to Port Talbot. here.

The second series focuses on versions of themselves as they try to navigate family life and acting work during the coronavirus lockdown.

Michael and Anna, also an actor, revealed they were in a relationship in 2019 when she shared a picture of the couple at a premiere on her Instagram page. The snap showed the pair looking at each other with the caption: ‘What an incredible night to be a part of! "I’m overwhelmed with pride and couldn’t be happier for Michael & the cast."
